Awards Season is in full swing, and last weekend’s Golden Globe Awards officially kicked things off. One of the big winners of the night was Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland, taking home Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director. This is obviously a major honor for director/writer Zhao, who also recently helmed Eternals for Marvel Studios. And she recently explained why she snuck an Avengers reference into Nomadland.
After originally being scheduled to be released at the very end of 2020, Coming 2 America is now all set to be an Amazon Prime original, and subscribers will have the opportunity to watch it on the streaming service this Friday, March 5. In addition to Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, KiKi Layne, Bella Murphy and Akiley Love, the film co-stars Wesley Snipes, James Earl Jones, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, and Nomzamo Mbatha. You can check out more from my interviews with the cast right here.
So Much Of His World Has Yet To Be Explored
It also should be noted that the Spider-Man property is much different than that of Captain America or Iron Man. Spider-Man is one of the few Marvel characters who truly transcends its comic book fans, whereas so many other characters needed the MCU to appeal to mainstream audiences. Just 10 years ago, many people who now know and love Thor had no idea who he was, and now he and the Mjolnir are common knowledge. But Spider-Man has been ahead of the game for a long time. Now that his movies are in a great place, why would Marvel, Disney and Sony say goodbye?
Along with delving thousands of years into the past to show how the man once known as Teth-Adam gained his amazing powers in ancient Kahndaq, the Black Adam movie will also see its eponymous protagonist clashing with the Justice Society of America, which consists of Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone and a yet-to-be-officially-revealed actor playing Doctor Fate. But beyond that, it’s hard to say what’s in store for Black Adam’s first DCEU outing, and it also hasn’t been revealed yet when he’ll fight Zachary Levi’s Shazam. Still, considering how long Dwayne Johnson has been waiting to play Black Adam, it must be a relief for him that filming is finally about to begin.
Mortal Kombat: Defenders Of The Realm (1996)
Did you ever stop and say, “I really wish they’d make a bloodless, goreless, Saturday morning kids cartoon based on Mortal Kombat.” Too bad! They went ahead and made one anyway, and boy is it weird. With any worthy kid’s action cartoon, the team of good guys regularly square off against the bad guys, with Raiden sending the team out on missions in their toy aisle-friendly dragon planes as they battle Shao Khan’s forces. This USA Network cartoon did feature some voice-acting big guns, including Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman and Clancy Brown, who was recently cast as the villain in the Showtime reboot of Dexter.
The primary goal of Andy McGee throughout Firestarter is ensuring the health and safety of his daughter, a six-year-old girl with pyrokinesis – but what comes in handy is the fact that he is able to perform a kind of mind control. Described by Stephen King as a “push,” Andy has the capacity (with proper focus) to alter a person’s perception of reality, such as making a taxi driver see a five-hundred dollar bill instead of a normal single. It’s a delicate thing for two reasons, however: the first is that it does extreme damage to the young father’s brain, and second in the long term it can have the effect of driving an individual insane.
Before The Way Back was released, Ben Affleck had spent the past decade producing, writing, directing and acting in his projects. Upon its release, the two-time Oscar winner received acclaim for his role as recovering alcoholic Jack Cunningham. The character seemed to be informed by the actor’s personal life. In fact, Affleck recently spoke about how his divorce and battle with alcoholism influenced his performance in the film.
Then again, Tom and Jerry is supposed to be a fast and funny caper where laughter is the aim. Things are supposed to be ridiculous and overblown, getting out of hand at every turn. So maybe instead of jokes between the Weekend Update cohorts, there will be a silent nod of understanding. These two Tom and Jerry fans will have common ground to share, and Colin Jost’s work will be respected as a job well done. Knowing the ever busy Michael Che though, something appropriately savage will probably drop. And Jost, as well as the rest of the SNL audience, will break as a result.
So if Coming to America had progressed without this studio note, Louie Anderson wouldn’t have been included in the feature, and presumably his character, an employee at the McDowell’s fast food restaurant named Maurice who Akeem briefly works alongside, would have been played by a Black actor. But things didn’t unfold that way, and having been impressed by Anderson’s comedy work in the ‘80s, Eddie Murphy thought that he’d be “perfect” for the role.
