21 Bob Braid Hairstyles You’ll Obsess Over for 2020

Nineties style seems to be ever-enduring. From slip dresses and oversized blazers, to pixie cuts and brown lipstick, it’s almost as if we never left the decade. Bob braids are no exception. Don’t get me wrong, I love flowing braids down to my butt. But there’s something so chic about a bobbed box braids look that makes me want to call up my stylist ASAP. And with Moesha back on Netflix, I’ve never had so much box braid style inspiration.

Shorter braids don’t mean they’re short on creativity or drama. Bob braids can be styled in so many ways and take quicker to install than standard long box braids. Give these cute protective styles one look, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t try them sooner.

Selena Gomez Doesn’t Want a Boyfriend: ‘Every One of My Exes Thinks I’m Crazy’

Finding a boyfriend is not on Selena Gomez’s priority list right now.

On September 6, makeup guru Nikkie de Jage, a.k.a. NikkieTutorial, posted a new video featuring the “Lose You to Love Me” singer. While trying out Gomez’s new Rare Beauty makeup line, the duo discussed some of the pop star’s favorite makeup looks through the years—her “I Can’t Get Enough” music video glam is one of them—and why she’s in no hurry to get into a new relationship after being single for almost five years.

Around 19 minutes into the video, while discussing her makeup artist Hung Vanngo, the 28-year-old jokes about marriage. “He will be doing my makeup for my wedding, which is never gonna happen,” she quipped.

“It’s hard in quarantine,” she continued, before adding that her words are “not an invitation” for interested parties. “It’s just funny that I release things that say I want a boyfriend and stuff…and I’m like, ‘I didn’t really mean it, though. Guys are a lot of work.”

“Every one of my exes thinks I’m crazy,” she added. “So, I don’t care.”

You can check out the full video below:

Selena Gomez has been linked to a few high-profile celebrities throughout the years. Other than her on-again-off-again relationship with Justin Bieber, she also dated The Weeknd and Nick Jonas—not to mention rumored romances with Orlando Bloom and Niall Horan. Bieber even came under fire this week for mentioning Gomez in a music video for DJ Khaled and Drake’s song, “Popstar.”

Meanwhile, although Gomez claims she’s single and not looking for love, the makeup mogul became visibly flustered after receiving a surprise phone call from a “cute boy” during a recent episode of the HBO Max series Selena + Chef.

“Hey, I have to call you back. I’m cooking,” she told the mystery man before apologizing to chef Roy Choi. “Sorry, cute boy,” Gomez explained with a laugh. Iiiiiinteresting.

A Gender Reveal Party Started A Massive Wildfire In California

A recent gender reveal party sparked one of the wildfires currently devastating California.

According to a press release from the Cal Fire San Bernadino unit, a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device” triggered a fire at the El Dorado Ranch Park on September 5. The piece of equipment, which was reportedly being used for a gender reveal party, started the burning at 10:23 am PT.

As of Monday, September 7, the Cal Fire incident website reports that the fire has grown across 7,386 acres and is just 7% contained. The status of the fire is currently active, with over 527 personnel on hand so far.

The fire has forced multiple communities, including Oak Glen, Yucaipa Ridge, Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls, to evacuate, with additional evacuation warnings for the Yucaipa bench area now in effect.

On September 7, the San Bernardino National Forest Service warned that the area’s elevated temperature and humidity combined with winds will “result in continued active fire behavior throughout the night.”

No charges over the incident have been announced, per CNN. However, Cal Fire officials announced that “those responsible for starting fires due to negligence or illegal activity can be held financially or criminally responsible.”

This is not the first time a gender-reveal party has ended in a raging wildfire. In 2018, a video shared by the US Forest Service went viral, depicting a blue-tinted explosion in Arizona that burned across 47,000 acres and resulted in over $8 million in damage, according to CNN.

Now, social media users are sharing this news as another example of reasons to end the trend of gender reveal parties altogether, which many believe reinforce harmful gender constructs

“That’s a series wrap on gender reveal parties,” Schitt’s Creek creator Dan Levy tweeted on September 7.

In the Cal Fire press release, officials urged the public to remember that “it doesn’t take much to start a wildfire.”

Cardi B Says She Would’ve ‘Went Crazy’ Performing ‘WAP’ Live

Cardi B wants you to know her new song “WAP” would’ve slap at concerts and music festivals.

Even though the 27-year-old rapper has topped the U.S charts with the hit track and is no doubt basking in its success with Megan Thee Stallion, she admitted on Twitter that she wishes she could perform the song live for her fans. “Yoooo I wanna perform WAP so bad with a lot ass crowd. I miss shows and festivals,” she tweeted September 5. “Yoooooo I would of went crazy.”

Based on the “WAP” music video and their ability to do the splits so effortlessly, it’s clear Cardi and Megan would have pulled out all the stops while performing the song live on stage.

In recent months, thousands of events—including tours and festivals—around the world have been postponed or canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to People, Cardi B hasn’t performed in front of a major crowd since 2019.

After sharing her tweet, some fans begged Cardi B to perform “WAP” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, which are set to air on October 14 from Las Vegas. (The awards show was originally scheduled for April 29 but was delayed by the global health crisis.)

If that happens, maybe she’ll ask Lizzo to join her performance. After all, Cardi B recently revealed she wanted the “Juice” hitmaker to appear in the “WAP” music video alongside Kylie Jenner, Normani, Rosalìa, Rubi Rose, Sukihana, and Mulatto.

“She was on vacation and she wasn’t in town,” the rapper told Hot 97 last week, per NME. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ because I had a whole vision about how I want to see Lizzo and everything…It was so important to me to include different women that are different races and come from different backgrounds, but are so powerful and influential.”

Here’s hoping Cardi’s “vision” will become a reality and that her wish to perform “WAP” live can come true soon!

Novak Djokovic Disqualified From U.S. Open After Accidentally Hitting an Official

Novak Djokovic has issued an apology after he was disqualified from the 2020 U.S. Open for accidentally hitting an official with a tennis ball.

The 17-time Grand Slam winner defaulted from the fourth round of the tournament Sunday, September 6, after he hit a ball in frustration and it struck a lineswoman in the throat during his match against fellow tennis player Pablo Carreno Busta.

A video of the incident sees the official falling to the ground in pain and gasping for air before Djokovic rushes to help her. Although the incident was unintentional, the tennis pro’s actions resulted in his disqualification and his chance to win his fourth U.S. Open title.

Tournament referee Soeren Friemel confirmed that Djokovic will also be fined $10,000 for the incident and will likely face an additional fine for not attending his post-match press conference.

Djokovic later released a public statement via Instagram, writing, “This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me that thank God she is feeling ok. I’m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong.”

Djokovic continued, “As for the disqualification, I need to go back within and work on my disappointment and turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and human being.” He opted to keep the lines person’s name to protect their privacy.

The 33-year-old concluded his post by apologizing to the U.S. Open for his “behavior” before thanking his team, family, and fans for “always being there with me.”

Novak Djokovic’s disqualification follows a controversial year for the athlete, including his anti-vaccination views, his decision to host an Eastern European tennis tournament in Serbia in June amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a video of him and several other players dancing in a crowded night club.

Chrissy Teigen Explained Why She Is Getting Botox While Pregnant

Once again, Chrissy Teigen just got real about pregnancy—this time, specifically, to speak out about using Botox to cope with “really really bad pregnancy headaches.”

The Cravings author, who’s expecting her third child with husband John Legend, posted a series of tweets on Friday, September 4, telling fans she got the all-clear from her doctor to get injections done. (Though Botox is often used to smooth wrinkles, research has shown that the procedure can help with common neurological conditions, including migraines.)

“I get really really bad pregnancy headaches,” Teigen explained. “Was thrilled to be cleared to do neck muscle botox along with a crazy combo of beta blocker shots and radio wave frequency something something doctor terms. anyhow man it’s just so bad but I see the light finally.”

Teigen said she’s used botox to help with non-pregnancy-related headaches as well, saying the procedure has been “life changing.” She wrote, “Jaw Botox for my grinding was a MUST for my regular headaches. You can also do behind the brow for migraines.”

However, the soon-to-be mother-of-three told her followers that she consults with a neurologist instead of a cosmetic Botox injector. “Yeah if you have the means to go to a neurologist instead of cosmetic it’s a lot better and safer because they talk to your OB,” Teigen tweeted.

In true Chrissy Teigen fashion, when a Twitter user commented that some mommy-shamers might disapprove, she replied, “I absolutely do not care.”

The supermodel’s latest pregnancy update comes one month after she revealed had no idea that she was expecting when she underwent surgery to remove her breast implants in June.

“Oh, it’s quite a story. Lol,” Teigen wrote in response to a fan who said they were “confused” by the timing of her pregnancy and her recent surgery. “I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative.”

Ultimately, Teigen admitted that she’s a little worried. “Part of me misses the safety of my perfect embryos, created in their little dish,” she tweeted. “They felt untouchable and safe. Now I feel a bit…eggshelly.”

Rihanna Got Into a Scooter Accident—But She’s ‘Completely Fine’ Now

Don’t worry, Rihanna only suffered minor injuries after getting into an electric scooter accident last week.

Over the weekend, the Fenty Beauty founder made headlines—but not for finally releasing her highly-anticipated new album or launching another groundbreaking brand. Instead, TMZ published multiple photos of Rihanna with visible bruises on her forehead and under her eye while ordering food at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California, on Friday, September 4.

According to the outlet, the “Wild Thoughts” singer, who wore sunglasses, tried to keep a low profile as the restaurant staff brought out her food and a glass of wine to her car. However, when she removed the sunnies, paparazzi captured images of her obvious injuries.

Following speculation on social media, Rihanna’s rep confirmed her injuries were the result of a scooter incident. “Rihanna is completely fine now but flipped over on an electric scooter last week and bruised her forehead and face,” they said in a statement, according to People. “Luckily, there were no major injuries and she is healing quickly.”

Remember when Rihanna rode a motorcycle during the Fenty Puma 2018 fashion show?

The Washington Post

As for that long-awaited new record, there’s still not word on when she’s dropping it, but Rihanna previously told Vogue she’s making a reggae album. “Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood,” she explained during an interview in 2019. “It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves.”

“It’s always the same high,” she added. “Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”

In August 2020, Rihanna trolled her fans who’ve been asking about the album after a video of her doppelgänger went viral on TikTok

“Where’s the album sis?” She replied. What a queen.

Serena Williams and Her Daughter Shared the Most Precious Moment at the U.S. Open

Serena Williams’ No. 1 fan—a.k.a. her daughter Olympia—was in the crowd to cheer on her mom at the 2020 U.S. Open this weekend.

The 38-year-old tennis pro’s husband Alexis Ohanian brought along their three-year-old daughter to support Williams during her match against Sloane Stephens on Saturday, September 5, at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

Though no outside fans are allowed to attend this year’s competition in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, little Olympia was front and center proudly clapping for her superstar mom from the stands. In a sweet video posted to Ohanian’s Instagram, Williams and Olympia shared a precious interaction midway through the match. At first, Williams didn’t realize her family was watching, but when she looked up, she saw Olympia excitedly waving at her.

The little one was even spotted proudly pointing and mouthing the words “mama” to Ohanian, who was wearing a covetable “girl dad” face mask. Check out the adorable family moment below:

Following her victory, Williams was asked what she hoped Olympia saw while watching her play. “Well, I forgot she was coming out, so I hope that she saw her mama fighting,” she said. “Hi, Baby. I don’t think she was paying attention, between you and me. She may have been playing with some princesses upstairs.”

In both 2018 and 2019, Williams made it all the way to the U.S. Women’s finals, but lost to Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu, respectively.

Following her victory against Stephens, Williams will move on to compete against Greece’s Maria Sakkara on Monday at 10 a.m. ET. If she’s successful, she’ll win her 24th Grand Slam title and tie long-retired Australian tennis star Margaret Court for the all-time lead in Grand Slam titles, according to the New York Times.

Whether she wins or not, Serena Williams family there will likely be more precious moments like this one to come.

Jurnee Smollett Learned the Secret to the Perfect Red Lip on the Lovecraft Country Set

If you’re not watching Lovecraft Country…well, get on it. The HBO series, which airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m., stars Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors in a twisty sci-fi drama set in 1950s Jim Crow America. Smollett plays Letitia “Leti” Lewis, a free spirited woman who embarks on a road trip with her childhood friend Atticus (Majors) and his uncle (Courtney B. Vance). Together, the trio encounter monsters both all-too-real (bigoted policeman, of which there are many) and fantastical (wizards, naturally).

It’s a bold and audacious story, Smollett praises, which is exactly what attracted her to the project. “When I read the character of Leti I felt that in every fiber of my being there was no one that could play this role but me,” Smollett says. “I felt so drawn to her and curious about her in ways that felt very familiar to me. There was was no way I was going to go down without a fight.”

But showrunner Misha Green—who is an executive producer alongside J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele, among others—clearly felt the same way. Smollett got the role, and she’s a revelation in it. “One of my favorite things about her is her buoyancy,” Smollett says. “She’s very unpredictable. Right when she maybe should make a left she makes a right. She really disrupts this idea of who you were supposed to be in 1955 America as being both black and female. She challenges it in such a way that I admire.”

Here, we asked Jurnee Smollett for more of her favorite things for our latest installment of Your Fave’s Faves.

The last great book I read

I recently read The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin and reread a book that I love called Perfect Peace by Daniel Black. I keep coming back to James Baldwin’s writing during this time of uprising, this time of grief for inspiration. And Daniel Black is such an exquisite author. His book confronts so many issues we are facing right now. It explores gender identity within the Black community, the Black family, life in the south. It’s so timely, and yet it’s simply just a poetic meditation on family.

The hair products I’m obsessed with

I love hair products! I’m using a shampoo and conditioner from a Black woman-owned company called SOTAH. Janet Zeitoun is famous for being Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson’s hair stylist. She’s a hair guru and also a family friend. I’m obsessed with her products because I always go back and forth between wearing my hair curly or blowing it out, and it’s so rich but doesn’t weigh it down. So regardless of how I want to wear my hair, it’s a great shampoo and conditioner for it.

How I self care

I am a big believer in baths, like, really meditating in baths. I find myself really unwinding more than ever now. I light my candles—I’ve loved Capri Blue Volcano for years and I keep coming back to it—I get my facial wash, I wash my hair, and I just get in the bath.

My go-to app

Lately I’ve been really holding on to the Headspace app for dear life. John Legend, a dear friend of mine, just partnered with them and did a whole playlist. So thank you, John. God bless you. I’ve been listening to it in the bath with my JBL speaker. But there have been times that I’m pumping Drake or listening to Fleetwood Mac, too.

My new quarantine hobby

I’ve been teaching myself how to play the guitar during COVID, so there’s a whole playlist I have of songs I aspire to learn, like Carole King’s Tapestry album. I’m only one song in, “So Far Away,” which is quite appropriate for being in isolation. Now I’ve moved on to learning Alanis Morissette’s “Perfect.” My taste in music is all over the place. Right now I’m loving Cautious Clay’s song “Cold War.” Sometimes I go for a drive with my son at night and let him fall asleep and just have that song on repeat.

The best thing in my closet

I love jumpers, so jumpsuits are pretty much what I’m living in right now. Ilana Kohn has the comfiest jumpers. I have another one I was given by the costume designer from Lovecraft Country. It’s Ralph Lauren vintage.

The jeans I always reach for first

I’ve lived in my favorite pair of jeans for most of Covid-19. They’re Levi 501s. They’re cut up and really light blue and have gotten to the point where they’re so worn down that they’re soft now. That and a white T-shirt was my uniform.

My favorite workout

Jeanette Jenkins trained me for Birds of Prey and the pilot of Lovecraft Country, and she has an online membership that I do. I do all her workouts because I always feel thoroughly worn down afterward, which is a feeling I like right now.

The makeup trick I learned on set

When the Lovecraft Country makeup artist Sandra Linn Koepper and I were creating the look for Leticia, we were like, “Well, we’ve got to do the classic red lip, right?” A good trick I learned was to put foundation on the line of my lip, like over my lip. so that when I line the red it’s crisp. It’s cool because all of our natural lip lines kind of bleed out and aren’t defined. So to get that really defined look she would have me put foundation on my lip line and put the red lip over that. I don’t remember what red we used, but you know, my makeup artist Vincent Oquendo turned me onto Shiseido Cocktail Hour, which I’m really liking right now.
