Women Are Praising Rihanna for Creating a ‘Universal Nude’ Lip in Chocolate Brown

Rihanna and her team have proven time and time again that Fenty Beauty is here to shake up the beauty industry and push for more inclusivity. This time, the brand is taking on the idea of a “universal nude” by offering a new shade of its Stunna Lip Paint in a rich brown chocolate. Rihanna secretly wore the latest Stunna Lip Paint—which is called “Unveil”—at her Savage x Fenty fashion show during New York Fashion Week, and the brand took to social media on Friday to announce the addition: “@badgalriri tested SEVERAL shades before landing on this rich chocolate brown that looks good on EVERYBODY!”

“Get ready for this universal chocolate BO$$ nude, that comes in your favorite lip paint formula and dries in a soft-matte finish,” another Instagram caption reads. “One swipe of this liquid lip is enough to get you a long-lasting lip that’ll catch every eye!”

Soon after, women on Twitter were quick to note what this means for women of color and share their appreciation. “Rihanna dropped a ‘universal nude’ in a shade called ‘chocolate’. We are the Fenty default,” one fan wrote. “Never in my life have I been part of the standard or default. Rihanna really did that,” another praised.

As Glamour pointed out earlier this year, consumers have begun to demand a more inclusive selection of nude makeup. The popular social media hashtag #notmynude called out most “universal” shades for excluding women of color, an issue that Fenty Beauty has addressed since the company’s start. Fenty’s inaugural 40-shade foundation range earned the brand praise—not to mention Time magazine’s award for “Invention of the Year“—and led other brands to follow suit with inclusive shade ranges of their own.

Why Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo Was Able To Push For Her Big Raise

There are TV shows with long runs, and then there’s Grey’s Anatomy. ABC’s popular medical drama is currently gearing up for its outstanding 15th season on the network, and is showing no signs of slowing down. Part of the reason for the continued success of Grey’s is due to its title character Meredith, played by Ellen Pompeo. While the show’s long tenure has resulted in a revolving door of surgeons, Meredith has remained consistent. Pompeo recently inked a massive deal with ABC for two more seasons, making her the highest paid woman in a TV drama. Pompeo’s deal has gotten plenty of press for her negotiating, and she recently expressed how she was able to do make it happen: she was privy to the inner workings of the show, and had data to back up her asking price. As she told it,

Now this is interesting. While Ellen Pompeo has been praised for negotiating her famous deal with ABC, there were plenty of factors that went into it. One of which being her ability to see the full picture of the Grey’s Anatomy‘s production.

Ellen Pompeo’s recent comments to EW help paint a fuller picture of TV negotiations, and the one that granted Ellen Pompeo a major pay raise and producer credit on Grey’s Anatomy. Most fans aren’t privy to the inner working of TV production– especially in a show that’s been running as long as Grey’s.

Since making her latest two year deal with Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo has been open about the struggles of asking for raises on the show in the past. Despite being the title character, Patrick Dempsey was paid more, and the network was unsure if the show could even survive without him. But Grey’s is still kicking, with Meredith narrating her personal and professional life every week.

The Room’s Tommy Wiseau Wants To Clarify A Few Things About The Cult Favorite

To say that The Room is a movie surrounded by urban legends is a bit of an understatement. The film is shrouded in mystery thanks to its infamous behind-the-scenes shenanigans and on-the-screen ridiculousness. This is all in no small part thanks to the self-styled mystery of Tommy Wiseau, the writer, director, actor, and producer of The Room. People have questions about the project, some of which were the focus of The Disaster Artist. One rumor indicates the movie had no script, and Tommy Wiseau is a little sick of that one. As he recently said,

15 years after the release of The Room, Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero are back with Best F(r)iends, a new movie that takes inspiration from their unlikely friendship. The two sat down for a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, but you can’t talk to these two without bringing up The Room. When asked how their lives have changed since the release of the award-winning Disaster Artist, Wiseau simply stated that he was himself. However, he did add that he’s always correcting rumors about The Room. One such rumor is that the movie didn’t have a script and that it “happened by accident,” which Wiseau disagrees with.

There’s some debate as to how much of The Room, dubbed the Citizen Kane of Bad Movies, was on purpose. The charm of the movie is how seriously it takes itself, which only makes everything more ridiculous. That’s why The Room has become so popular for midnight screenings, but according to Wiseau, the movie was always envisioned as a comedy. Whether that’s true or not is anyone’s guess, but Wiseau is sticking to his guns on this one.

Only time will tell if Best F(r)iends will get a similar cult status as The Room. The plot follows a homeless drifter in Los Angeles who begins working at a morgue, only to realize his boss (Tommy Wiseau) is hiding a mysterious past. The film is directed by Justin MacGregor and written by Greg Sestero. Volume One of the movie releases on digital and on-demand September 25.

America’s Got Talent Finalist Arrested For Domestic Violence A Day After The Finale

America’s Got Talent announced its Season 13 winner on Wednesday (September 19) and a day later, one of the finalists is making headlines. This time, it is not related to a performance on the show, rather what occurred after the season has come to an end that is making the news. On Thursday, aspiring singer Michael Ketterer, who finished fifth overall in the reality television competition, was arrested and charged with domestic violence in Hollywood.

The next day, Michael Ketterer was released in the early morning hours of Friday after posting bail, which was set at $50,000. The arrest happened at 3:45 p.m. after authorities responded to a call at the hotel, Ketterer and his family were staying at. After arriving at the scene, officers noticed a “visible red mark” on Ketterer’s wife and subsequently arrested Ketterer for felony domestic violence.

The America’s Got Talent finalist confirmed to TMZ that he and his wife did get into an argument in their hotel room when the police were called. Michael Ketterer also maintained his arrest was a “misunderstanding.” He added that the arrest occurred despite his wife telling law enforcement she did not want to press charges against him.

The site also reports that their sources within law enforcement expect the case to be downgraded to a misdemeanor, given the degree of injury to Michael Ketterer’s wife being minimal. One of Ketterer’s upcoming appearances is a performance at country music superstar, Garth Brooks’ concert at Notre Dame Stadium. The invitation to perform there was extended by Brooks, per EW.

That concert is still more than a month away. It is scheduled to take place on October 20. Michael Ketterer performed “The Courage to Love” a song written by Garth Brooks at Simon Cowell’s behest during his run on the NBC talent show. A pediatric mental health nurse and father of six, Ketterer’s America’s Got Talent story began with Simon Cowell pressing the Golden Buzzer following Ketterer’s audition. During the first half of the finale, Ketterer performed “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

In the end, Michael Ketterer finished his America’s Got Talent run by placing in fifth. Mesmeric magician Shin Lim won the competition. The runner-ups included acrobatic group Zurcaroh, violinist Brian King Joseph in third place, and stand-up comedian Samuel J. Comroe in fourth, with Ketterer rounding out the top 5. Ketterer’s fifth-place finish put him coming out ahead of teen singer, Courtney Hadwin.

A crowd favorite, Michael Ketterer’s fifth-place finish was not well-received by the live audience. America’s Got Talent will return for a fourteenth season. In the meantime, a slew of series will be making their returns as well as premiering this fall on NBC and other networks.

Chucky’s Creator Just Threw Shade At The Child’s Play Reboot

Nostalgia has proved a powerful tool in the entertainment industry, heralding in endless reboots and sequels. This has also extended to the horror genre, as a new Halloween movie will arrive this year. A Child’s Play reboot is also in the works, with Audrey Plaza attached to play the film’s protagonist. Chucky is returning in a new and updated franchise, and the iconic villain is getting a brand new look for the upcoming slasher flick. He’s not the Good Guy you know and love, and now Chucky creator and Child’s Play franchise writer Don Mancini has responded to the new look in the shadiest way possible.

Ouch. Don Mancini is not happy with Chucky’s look in the new Child’s Play movie, and he’s not afraid to make that known. But rather than tearing into the upcoming reboot with his words, he allowed the always iconic Mariah Carey to handle it instead. Thanks, Twitter.

For those who don’t know, Mariah Carey’s utterance of “I don’t know her” has become somewhat of a catch phrase over the past few years. The origin comes from her feud with Jennifer Lopez, with Carey constantly repeating that she doesn’t know J.Lo. Even though… we all know J.Lo. It’s become a legendary moment of sass, one that Don Mancini seems all to happy to utilize in order to show his disdain for the Child’s Play reboot.

Don Mancini’s feelings toward the Child’s Play reboot shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, considering the writer/director’s long history with the franchise. Mancini helped create Chucky with the original film, and stayed on for all the subsequent sequels. In addition to writing and producing the sequels, he also directed the past few installments. Chucky is Mancini’s baby, and now the character is being handed over to someone else.

As a reminder, you can check out the first peek from the Child’s Play reboot below.

Since Don Mancini isn’t involved in the Child’s Play reboot, it should be interesting how different the upcoming movie is. In addition to being written by someone new, the reboot will also change up its format a bit. It’ll reportedly be focused on a group of kids a la Stranger Things, and Chucky will be getting some technological improvements as well. What those might be are a mystery.

CinemaBlend will keep you updated on all things Child’s Play as details become public. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Michelle Obama Is Selling Out Arenas for Her Book Tour—and Some Tickets Cost as Much as $3,000

Michelle Obama and her BFF Beyoncé have a lot in common: They’re strong women. They’re constantly referred to as “queen.” Oh, and people are willing to shell out hundreds—maybe even thousands—for a ticket to see them.

Tickets for Michelle Obama’s upcoming book tour for her new memoir Becoming recently went on sale. And while it wasn’t a big surprise how quickly fans snapped them up, the price tag did come as a shock to some. Obama will appear in 12 cities across the United States—two extra stops were added to the originally planned 10-city tour to meet the demand—and prices for the event range from a reasonably affordable $29.50 to as much as $3,000. Naturally, the cheaper ones sold out first, according to The Washington Post, leaving only the more expensive options available.

For those who do have $3,000 to spend, it’ll get you more than just a seat in the front row. For that price, guests get to attend a meet-and-greet reception with Obama that includes a pre-show photo opportunity, a signed book, and an “exclusive VIP gift item,” among other perks. Still, some aren’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of paying an arm and a leg to see Michelle Obama’s toned arms IRL.

The price isn’t the only headline-making news about Obama’s upcoming tour. She’s selling out full arenas, which isn’t exactly a regular occurrence for book tours. This has fans likening her to Madonna in the ’80s or, yes, Beyoncé.

And Michelle Obama herself apparently wasn’t prepared for the immense reaction to her tour. “Truly humbled by the response to my upcoming book tour,” she wrote on Twitter. “I can’t wait to share BECOMING with all of you & hope to see you somewhere along the way!”

The tour kicks off in Chicago on November 13, and some tickets are still on sale for a few locations—at least, for now.

Star Wars’ Holochess Game Was Really Thought Out

You’d have to be a pretty hardcore Star Wars fan to recognize the game of Dejarik — or to even know it by its name. It’s a holographic chess game that’s played by Chewbacca and C-3PO for 15 seconds in the Millennium Falcon, but in Star Wars pretty much nothing is without a backstory. The game made a reappearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it was animated by Tippet Studio, who worked on the original game way back in 1977. The studio managed to pack the game with tons of detail, including why it looks so crummy in A New Hope.

Tippet Studio is a production company that specializes in animation, and designed the stop-motion creatures that would become Dejarik in Star Wars. Chris Morley, the VFX supervisor for Tippet Studios, provided the story behind the game’s appearance in Solo on the company’s website. When the studio was first designing the monsters that would be the holographic game pieces, it had pitched 10 creatures to Lucasfilm. Only eight were chosen to be in the movie, but when the studio was brought back for Solo, they decided to give those two unused monsters their time in the sun. But how do explain the game having 10 characters in Solo, but only eight in A New Hope? Chewbacca is a sore loser and broke the game, of course.

Solo takes place years before A New Hope, so everything about the Millenium Falcon is shiny and new. That includes Dejarik, which is supposed to have 10 pieces, but Chewbacca breaks the game after losing to Beckett (Woody Harrelson). His Wookie strength causes the game to lose those two monster, leaving only eight left. It was a purely coincidental moment in the movie that Tippet utilized and pitched it to Lucasfilm.

There’s a reason you should always let the Wookie win. For more Star Wars updates, keep it right here at CinemaBlend.

Captain Marvel’s Annette Bening Isn’t Sure What She’s Allowed To Say About The Movie

Over the past decade or so of filmmaking, the superhero genre has quickly become the most dominating force in filmmaking. With three shared universes currently battling for box office supremacy, it seems like just about everyone is getting in on a comic book adaptation. This includes even the great Anette Bening, who will make her genre debut with Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster Captain Marvel. The penultimate movie in the shared universe’s Phase Three, the highly anticipated movie will bring Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers into the narrative, as well as a cast of new supporting characters. Unfortunately, Bening’s role is a complete mystery. In fact, she’s not even sure what she’s allowed to talk about.

Well, this is certainly intriguing. While Anette Bening is unable to break new news about her role in Captain Marvel, she seems to have had the full comic book movie experience– which will only increase speculation and theorizing.

Anette Bening’s Marvel-ous comments, which come from her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, are sure to excite the rabid Marvel fanbase– as well as cinephiles who have followed the actress’ long career. Not everyone involved in Marvel movies gets to do the fun stuff, as there are plenty of supporting characters who don’t get involved in the big action sequences. Bening seems to hint that she’s involved in major conflicts, but who could she be playing?

The most common theory about Anette Bening’s Captain Marvel role is that she may be Carol Danver’s mother. This seems logical, as the film’s first trailer revealed how much of the blockbuster will be focused on Carol’s life and psyche. As she attempts to remember her life on Earth before gaining massive powers and joining Starforce, there will be scenes harkening all the way back to the character’s childhood. Parents have always played a major role in the MCU, and getting Anette Benning to play Brie Larson’s mother sounds like a major win.

Then again, it would be awesome if directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck surprises audiences, and give Anette Bening an action-heavy role. She’s among just a few actors with undisclosed roles, so perhaps Marvel has big plans for her secret appearance. The MCU loves plot twists and secrets, so there’s really no telling how it’ll all go down.

Everything will be revealed when Captain Marvel arrives in theaters on March 8, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Cardi B Wore a White Tracksuit for Her Wedding to Offset, Is an Inspiration

Cardi B certainly knows how to make a statement, especially when it comes to her style. From her jewel-encrusted Moschino gown at the 2018 Met Gala to the three outfit changes she wore to the 2018 VMAs to the bargain-friendly finds she seems to track down on the regular (degular, shmegular), the rapper is constantly making fashion headlines.

So of course when it came to the look she chose for her wedding day to Offset, she didn’t disappoint. Cardi eschewed the traditional big white wedding dress for something far more comfortable: A white tracksuit.

Cardi has managed to keep most details about her wedding to Offset very, very quiet. (In fact, no one even knew they were married for a full eight months.) But, in honor of their one-year anniversary on September 20, she shared a photo from their wedding—the first we’ve ever seen of the event. In it, she’s holding hands with Offset and wearing a white tracksuit with a gold stripe. “TBT …September 20th,” she captioned the shot.

Cardi and Offset welcomed their first child together, Kulture, in July. While their engagement and pregnancy were both well publicized—he proposed to her onstage at a concert, she revealed that she was expecting while hosting SNL—they managed to keep the fact that they were married a secret for the better part of their first year together.

“There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself!” she wrote on Twitter in June. “Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other.”

She continued, “I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring! I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting for me to have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me!!”

Blake Lively Wears a Skirt One Time, Makes Headlines

After spending the last two months convincing us to add suits to our fall wardrobes, Blake Lively has gone and ditched her new signature look for—wait for it—a skirt.

Lively was photographed leaving the Christian Dior offices in Paris this week wearing a printed A-line skirt designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, an act that would have been fairly uneventful in months past. Blake Lively, a celebrity known for her heightened sense of style, wears a designer’s look…to that designer’s offices? OK!

Now, though, this skirt is considered so newsworthy that it caused a flurry of headlines and tweets in its wake. “Blake Lively Wears a Skirt for the First Time in Months!” the Page Six declared. It’s “a big deal for fans of her fashion,” People magazine noted.

To be fair, this is the first time Lively has been seen publicly wearing something other than a suit in months. It’s a testament to her commitment toward A Simple Favor, her new movie with Anna Kendrick in which her character wears almost exclusively suits. So, throughout the film’s press tour, Lively has shown up on red carpets in all sorts of different takes on the style—velvet suits! neon suits! plaid suits! I guess now that A Simple Favor is officially in theaters, Lively can mix up her look a little more?

But even though her seemingly endless supply of suits is maybe-probably about promoting her movie, Lively was still quick to call out those who criticized her for them. After an Instagram commenter made a joke about “suit number 1,356,” Lively responded, “Would you note a man wearing lots of suits during a promo tour? So why can’t a woman? Just sayinnnn. No double standard ladies.” The commenter apologized, and Lively replied, “Nothing but love. I don’t expect everyone to like it. Fashion that creates a difference of opinions is the fun part. I totally understand the missed humor. I do the same thing sometimes. Just lookin’ to encourage woman to do what men do without being teased for it. Yes, even in a space as material as fashion. It all starts somewhere…and everyone’s voice counts.”

And if you think Lively is totally done with suits now that she’s added a skirt into the mix, hold up: The same day she wore the Dior skirt, she was back to business as usual:
