Twitch Has Been Blocked In China

Tthe recent focus has been put on the health of youngsters from a physical and mental standpoint. A big concern right now is that being tethered to a gaming console or streaming service could create problems for eyesight, and addiction to games and services like Twitch are also a concern. For the time being, it seems like they’re taking a stone wall approach to just about everything game related until they nail down what their regulations should be. The end result might be exactly what we’re seeing right now, or they may eventually loosen some restrictions and allow more games, and maybe even Twitch, to once again be made available in the region.

Giant Harry Potter Wands Have Showed Up In London, And It’s Awesome

With Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald just under two months away, London is lighting the way in celebration of another wizarding world film at one of their London landmarks. Leading up to the release of the Fantastic Beasts sequel, an installation of 15-feet-tall glowing wands will light up the walkway between Millennium Bridge and St. Paul Cathedral on Peter’s Hill. This installation is a beautiful tribute to the wizarding world, that will have many fans of the franchise apparating to London to see for themselves. Take a look:

The giant wands have made their way to London, thanks to J.K. Rowling‘s charity Lumos, and the city of London Arts Initiative. Rowling’s charity, named after the light-giving spell in the Harry Potter books, is a non-profit organization that aims to help disadvantaged children in orphanages around the world. The installation seeks to bring awareness to the charity along with bringing some wizarding world magic to the city before the film’s release. The installation includes nine wands, each representing a famous character in the wizarding world’s history.

The wands which glow at their ends, will light up the walkway every night at 6:45pm from October 18 to November 12. During the installation, there will also be ‘Wizarding Wednesdays’ at the sight where wand training, live performances from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films by a military marching. For Londoners and tourists, this hint of Harry Potter on the famous walkway on Peter’s Hill is an exciting way to ring in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. Additionally in London, fans can get ready for Crimes of Grindelwald film in autumn with the special “Hogwarts After Dark” dinner held at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London.

Fans of the Harry Potter books and films are constantly treated with experiences that give them a taste of living in the wizarding world, due to the series’ massive popularity over its more than 20 year old past. Universal Studios has built the Wizarding World in Hollywood and Orlando for fans to escape to, and keeps expanding. Universal Studios Orlando is currently hard at work on a new thrill ride for the land. The development is currently being kept under wraps but is said to be a new wizarding world inspired rollercoaster

Crimes of Grindelwald will have Newt Scamander and a young Albus Dumbledore, played by Jude Law hunting down Gellert Grindelwald and his growing wizard followers with an agenda to rule over all muggles. David Yates returns to direct the continuation of the Fantastic Beasts, this time returning to more familiar territory for fans, as the movie will have Newt revisiting his time at Hogwarts– where Dumbledore was his professor before becoming headmaster as we know him in the Harry Potter films. Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters on November 16, 2018.

Chris Hemsworth’s New Men In Black Video Might Make You Dizzy

With his time as Thor seemingly coming to a close in Avengers 4, Chris Hemsworth has lined up another potential franchise in Men in Black. After some other projects that didn’t pan out, the sci-fi series is returning with an all-new cast that includes Hemsworth and his Thor: Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson. Not much is knowm about the movie, but it’s been filming and set photos have started to hit the internet. Hemsworth shared his own video from the set, but you’re just going to make yourself dizzy trying to find any new details. Check it out.

Simply called MIB, the film is technically a spin-off because it will not see the return of former series leads Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. Instead, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are stepping up as Agents H and M, who will no doubt have to prevent some sort of alien catastrophe from destroying the planet. The movie has been filming since July, but few details have emerged. It looks like Hemsworth has taken the lead on sharing moments from the set, such as the first look at himself and Thompson in costume. (White shirts, black ties. What else could it have been?).

Chris Hemsworth’s latest post from the set is a video of himself, but those looking for some juicier details might be disappointed. The video features Hemsworth spinning himself and the camera around in a circle, jokingly calling this “doing my own stunts.” It’s difficult to tell even what the set is, so it looks like we’ll have to wait a little while longer to get some stronger facts about the movie.

The goal of MIB is that it will revitalize the Men in Black franchise, which has been stagnant for the last few years. After Men in Black 3, a follow up was in development but it was ultimately dropped. A potential crossover with the 21 Jump Street franchise was also under consideration, and while it would have been bonkers, it likewise never made it out of development. Now Sony is starting fresh with an all-new cast, and it has enlisted F. Gary Gray to direct.

MIB will avoid the question of whether it exists in the same continuity of the previous trilogy, by taking place in the London branch of the MIB. This helps explain why it has an entirely new cast of characters, which include Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall, and Rebecca Ferguson. The movie also features Emma Thompson as a fellow agent and Liam Neeson as the boss of the operation.

MIB is currently scheduled to release on June 14, 2019. That’s still almost a year away, so keep yourself busy by going to see movies coming out soon, all of which you can find in our 2018 movie release guide.

Halo Infinite Won’t Offer Loot Boxes For Real Cash

Hot on the heels of news that Halo Infinite will include microtransactions following launch, studio head Chris Lee has taken to social media to put out some fires– promising fans that loot boxes are not part of the equation. So while the studio appears to still be planning some sort of for-pay content for Master Chief’s next adventure, it sounds like you won’t have to worry about blind grab-bags of cosmetic goodies rearing their ugly head.

The above tweet comes from 343 Industries’ Chris Lee, responding to a fan’s concern that loot boxes would be popping up in Halo Infinite. User @HiddenXperia is a Halo Youtuber, who took to social media after reading a Gamespot article about how Halo Infinite will boast microtransactions. Xperia stated concerns that the microtransactions would be invasive and have a negative impact on the game.

According to Lee, 343 Industries is still figuring out some of the game’s inner working but, while he didn’t state microtransactions are getting the axe, he did clear the air that loot boxes were not even part of the conversation. That likely comes as great news for Halo fans, who have been waiting (and will continue waiting) a long time for Infinite– especially considering how poisonous the whole microtransaction/loot box conversation has become for developers/publishers over the past year.

The debate about microtransactions hit a fever pitch last year nearing the launch of Battlefront II. We won’t rehash all of the details for the millionth time, but EA and DICE were getting flamed pretty hard for planning microtransactions for the popular Star Wars franchise that could only be described as “predatory.” Things got so bad that the game’s microtransaction system was cut right before launch and, after months of patches and retooling systems, it’s actually evolved into a rather fantastic online shooter. The problem is that it would have been a much bigger success had the game been developed with a conscience in the first place.

In the end this created something of a snowball effect, leading to national investigations, questioning of whether or not loot boxes are technically gambling and several games either changing course before launch or cutting these types of microtransactions from games that were already out in the wild.

All of this also beats at the heart of the new “games as service” model everyone is so wild about. Developers want to make games that get played a lot longer than was traditionally the case, but they also want to find a way to continue making money off of those games if they’re still putting in so much effort. Fans don’t seem to be too angered by well-implemented microtransactions, such as cosmetic items in Fortnite or even its season pass, as you know exactly what you’re getting when you pay for it. Loot boxes, though, seem to have become a major problem with many gamers, so it’s good news they won’t be making an appearance in the new Halo.

Check Out Robert Englund’s Return As Freddy Krueger For ABC’s The Goldbergs

The Goldbergs is preparing for its Halloween episode, and they have booked a particularly frightening guest star. Taking to Twitter to promote the special installment of the series, the show has shared a video clip featuring two of the episode’s stars. In it, actress Wendi McLendon-Covey can be seen seemingly in-character as Goldberg matriarch Wendy, as she introduces viewers to the series’ frightening special guest: Freddy Krueger! You can watch the clip for yourself below:

That’s right! Robert Englund is in full makeup as the infamous horror movie character! Making it all the more-headline worthy is that back in 2017, the actor expressed hesitance about reprising the role for a movie. Another thing worthy of note is how stellar the special effects makeup is. CGI still does not create such a realistic result. It may not be a return to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, but it is still very exciting for fans of the horror franchise.

It has been almost 15 years since Robert Englund portrayed Freddy Krueger in a movie. That happened in 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason. In 2010, the original film was remade with Rooney Mara in the lead, although Jackie Earle Haley took on the role of Krueger. With The Goldbergs‘ Adam love of pop culture, you can bet he will be involved with the appearance of Freddy Krueger.

The Goldbergs is set in the ‘1980s, which puts it around the time the first A Nightmare on Elm Street was released (which was 1984). Could the evil Krueger be haunting Adam’s nightmares? Well, it seems a possibility. The promo is a significant reveal, and it looks like The Goldbergs will not be holding back on Robert Englund bringing Freddy Krueger back to life.

For The Goldbergs to land Robert Englund reprising his infamous role is a pretty big deal. Given that the show is a comedy, it would be highly unlikely that the show’s take on Freddy Krueger will be as terrifying as the horror franchise’s. Could donning the makeup spark renewed interest in a potential remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street with Englund reprising the role of Krueger? It has been eight years since the 2010 remake, which means a million in Hollywood years.

If it does, fans could potentially have The Goldbergs to thank for it. Interest in reviving the franchise would surge even more if the fan favorite were back in the role. While 15 years is an extensive time to be away from a role, based on the clip Robert Englund is able to pick up exactly where he left off.

The Goldbergs will return for its sixth season premiere on Wednesday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The Halloween episode featuring Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger should air sometime in October. The Goldbergs will not be the only series making its return this fall, including on the Alphabet Network.

The Best Corduroy Pieces to Shop for Fall 2018

Corduroy is to fall what linen is to summer: a fabric that just feels right for the time of year, both in terms of comfort and aesthetic. And though both are givens in fashion drops around their respective season, corduroy still hasn’t totally shed its nostalgic veneer. Sure, in recent seasons, it may have been ushered back into the mainstream by designers’ fascination with all things retro, but the pieces landing in the new arrivals section for Fall 2018 feel decidedly modern—polished silhouettes, fresh color ways, and mix-and-match separates make them feel less ’60s, more street-style (or a glorious combination of both).

Check out some of the best corduroy fashion to shop for fall, ahead.

Benedict Wong’s Avengers 4 Photo Is Deeply Unsettling

Anticipation is high for Avengers 4, and the hype is only increased all the more by the fact that no knows anything about the upcoming movie. We’re still eagerly awaiting for a title reveal, but until then the film is working on wrapping up its reshoots. Small details have emerged from the set thanks to the actors sharing moments to their social media feeds. This is a pretty good indicator of who will be appearing in the movie, and it looks like Wong is back for round. But good luck looking past this profoundly unsettling post from Benedict Wong.

I have no clue what’s going on in that photo, and the confusion is not making me feel any better.

When we last left Wong, he was making a strategic retreat to the Sanctum Sanctorum. Without Doctor Strange there to protect it, it falls to Wong to make sure that none of the mystical power in the house is misused by others, which is apparently of equal importance to protecting the Infinity Stones. Regardless, Wong makes his exit, and it’s unknown if he survived universe-killing Snap from Thanos at the end of the movie. Whether he survived or not, it looks like Wong will be in the film, as Benedict Wong shared a photo confirming his involvement in the movie.

As to what that involvement is, Benedict Wong’s Instagram post leaves fans guessing. The actor is getting some serious makeup removed (or put on?) his face, and the incredibly life-like cosmetics make it look like his face is legit getting ripped off. My discomfort aside, Wong writes that this is the”cleaning of spoilers,” which doesn’t provide any extra clues. Why does Wong need a face mask? Was it to make him look younger, older? Does he suffer wounds in battle? I don’t know enough about movie makeup to understand what they are doing, but maybe all will become clear when Avengers 4 arrive in the theater.

More than a few people in the comments are saying that Wong is going to be a Skrull, the shapeshifting aliens making their debut in Captain Marvel next year. That doesn’t make much sense, seeing as how they wouldn’t put Benedict Wong’s makeup face over a Skrull face when VFX exist, but people are going to be calling Skrull for a while until this movie hits theaters.

Skrull or not, Benedict Wong and his face will appear in Avengers 4, which is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2019. For more information about this massive blockbuster, here’s what we know so far, and for everything coming from Marvel, here’s our Phase 3 movie guide to keep it all in check.

One Batman Writer’s Blunt Opinion About Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Movie

Since it was announced, it’s been hard to know what to feel about Todd Phillips’ Joker origin film. On the one hand it seems unnecessary, with the Solo: A Star Wars Story problem that no one was asking for a story about how this character came to be. On the other hand it is separate from the DCEU, and Joaquin Phoenix is involved. As such, the fanbase has been in a state of skepticism and intrigue with this film. Fans aren’t the only ones with mixed feelings about it either. Writer Scott Snyder has been writing comics for the better part of a decade for both Marvel and DC– with tons of Batman stories under his belt. So he’s something of an authority on the topic of the Joker. The Batman writer shared his blunt opinion on Todd Phillips’ Joker, saying:

Scott Snyder’s opinion, while blunt, seems to echo the opinions of some fans. His sentiment towards the Joaquin Phoenix film is one of trepidation and skepticism that, against all logic, is overridden by curiosity and excitement. This is a man who has written plenty of Batman stories, and initially seems to believe a Joker origin story shouldn’t work. That is far from an uncommon belief, with the best iteration of the character, Heath Ledger’s enigmatic mad dog, keeping nothing in his pockets but knives and lint. So showing his origin and dispelling the mystery opens the door, and could easily go wrong. And yet the prospect of this film is also what makes it so intriguing.

As Scott Snyder says on Twitter, this film is daring by its definition, which is extremelyexciting. The fact that Joker is separate from the DCEU presumably gives it a level of freedom, with the story and the character to do something we haven’t seen before. That Todd Phillips’ vision was compelling enough to get talent like Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro to star in a comic book movie also leads one to believe that this movie will not be playing it safe. Those factors and the comparisons to Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy mean that, like Scott Snyder says, Joker seems like it will be weird and dark and hopefully visionary.

We got our first taste of that vision yesterday with a look at Joaquin Phoenix in makeup for a camera test for the film. We don’t know for sure if this is just Arthur Fleck‘s clown makeup, pre-Joker transformation or not, but already you can get a sense of how different this might be from what we are used to. Whether it will work remains to be seen, but it is clear that Todd Phillips and company will not be playing it safe.

Joker opens in theaters on October 4, 2019. For movies hitting theaters a bit sooner, check out our 2018 release schedule.

Selena Gomez Is Giving Away Her Clothes for Free on Instagram

Any interest in a free, sparkly Prada dress that would be perfect for a fancy New Years Eve party, a black-tie wedding, or just feeling glamorous AF while you sit on the couch watching Netflix? Selena Gomez has you covered.

The singer took to Instagram stories this week to share that she’s giving away the dress she wore in her “Back to You” music video to a lucky fan. The dress is covered in silver sequins and decorated at the bottom with bright green feathers, and it looks fabulous in the video while Gomez goes to a party, steals a car, and falls in love. (As you do.) But it must have served its purpose for the singer, because she’s ready to pay it forward to her fans.

In the Instagram video, she gives viewers a glimpse into her closet. “This is my dress that I wore for the ‘Back to You’… music video, and I kind of want to give it away to someone,” she says at one point. “So, if you want this dress, let me know, and I will just send it along to you because it has no use being in my closet whatsoever.”

Gomez’s “Back to You” dress isn’t the only sparkly article of clothing she’s looking to purge from her wardrobe. In the same series of posts, she also shows off an old ice skating outfit from her short stint as an ice skater. “So the story behind this outfit, with a matching scrunchie, might I add, was that I decided I was going to be an ice skater for two days. That didn’t really work out,” she explains. “I’ll give that away too.”

Check out the video below to see the Prada dress in all its glittering glory, then shoot Selena a DM and hope for the best.
