New Avengers 4 Theory Suggests Shuri Could Be More Important Than We Thought

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a serious hot streak, as every single blockbuster in Phase Three has been a financial and critical success. The past decade of moviegoing came to a head with The Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Infinity War, bringing almost every major character together for an epic team up against Josh Brolin’s Thanos. But Thanos ultimately won, and was able to wipe out half the galaxy with the snap of his finger. This included T’Challa aka Black Panther, who vanished in front of Okoye’s eyes during the shocking final scene. Letitia Wright’s Shuri was featured in Infinity War, but her fate was let ambiguous in the wake of the snap. But a new fan theory indicates she might be a very important role in Avengers 4.

Since T’Challa is a victim of Thanos’ finger snap, Wakanda will need a new ruler, who will also wield the mantle of the Black Panther. Shuri seems the most logical choice, and the next in the blood line of the family. That’s exactly what redditor HockeyTalkie claimed in his theory, although there are a few caveats. The most obvious being the heart-shaped herb that gives the hero his abilities. They were all destroyed during the events of Black Panther, but perhaps Shuri has found a way to revive them. She’ll need to take them and win a trial of combat in order to become Black Panther– something that fans would no doubt love to see in Avengers 4.

Another aspect of the fan theory is that Shuri’s journey to becoming the Black Panther might actually reveal a major plot twist regarding the characters who vanished during Thanos’ snap. Part of becoming the Black Panther is going to the Wakandan ancestral plane, and meeting with the former holders of the superheroic mantle. If Shuri goes on this journey and finds that T’Challa is not there, it would reveal the characters who turned to dust weren’t actually dead. Cue the rescue efforts.

Of course, this is all just fan theorizing at this point. But narratively it would make sense, and give The Russo Brothers further chance to highlight the settings and characters of Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has also teased the importance of female characters in the future of the MCU, so having Shuri become the next Black Panther would stand to reason. Furthermore, this ancestral plane aspect would give the surviving Avengers a logical reason to continue their fight against Thanos.

Ultimately, the events of Avengers 4 are a complete mystery to the general public, as Marvel is letting the fandom stew within the crazy events ofInfinity War, while also releasing Ant-Man and The Wasp and Captain Marvel in the process.

All will be revealed when Avengers 4 arrives in theaters on May 3rd, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

The Main Reason Why Doctor Who Chose A Female Lead For Season 11

Much has been said about Jodie Whittaker’s casting as Doctor Who‘s first female Doctor. We’ve learned how Whittaker got the job and what various actors from the beloved franchise think of her inclusion, but there hasn’t been much of a full story behind the show’s decision to cast a female Time Lord. Apparently, that’s because there was never really much of a discussion about it, as executive producer Matt Strevens revealed the main reason we’re getting a female Doctor Who lead is that it was a requirement new showrunner Chris Chibnall had before he accepted the position. In Stevens’ words:

Chris Chibnall knew from the start that he wanted a female Doctor, and he that wouldn’t be replacing Steven Moffat as Doctor Who showrunner unless that demand was met. It was a bold ask, considering a gender switch of The Doctor had never officially happened in the TV show’s long history, but Matt Strevens said all the decision-makers that be knew the time had come to finally get behind a female lead. As Strevens added to Digital Spy, the character of The Doctor was never defined by a gender, and the Gallifreyan might be the very definition of a gender fluid character.

Chris Chibnall got his wish, and the rest of the Doctor Who staff soon saw the show change in many ways once the new boss got comfortable leading the chaos. In short, the show will look far removed from the Steven Moffat years when it makes its Season 11 debut, to the point that Chibnall has teased an almost completely lack of familiar villains. Chibnall may have been dead-set on having a woman play The Doctor, but one could also speculate the showrunner was just as interested in doing whatever he could to shake up the series as much as possible to give new viewers a chance to get onboard.

The verdict is out on whether those changes will be well-received by the Doctor Who fanbase when the season premieres, but many of the show’s alumni are confident in Chris Chibnall casting Jodie Whittaker. The actress has the stamp of approval from several of the show’s former cast, including the show’s past three former Doctors Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, and David Tennant. (The latter of whom was Whittaker’s co-star in Broadchurch.) All seem to agree the actress’ energy and emotion will be the greatest trait she brings to the Doctor, and footage from the upcoming season appears to back that up.

Doctor Who Season 11 premieres on BBC America and the BBC on Sunday, October 7. For a look at what is coming to television around that time, be sure to visit CinemaBlend’s fall premiere guide.

The Charlie’s Angels Reboot Has Added Patrick Stewart For A Cool Role

Elizabeth Banks’ reboot of the Charlie’s Angels franchise is promising to be something different for the series, and the newest piece of casting is more evidence that this is the case. Patrick Stewart has now joined the film to play the familiar role of Bosley. While that in itself isn’t unusual, what makes it so is that director Elizabeth Banks was, and still is, planning to play the same role.

While the new Charlie’s Angels movie will have the same basic premise as the TV series it was based on, which itself saw a pair of previous big-screen adaptations, the new movie will change things up in a few key ways. First and foremost, the detective agency run by Charlie Townsend will actually be a global security firm with agents all over the world. The movie will simply focus on one of the offices, where the Angels, played by Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska, all work. Another big change was set to be the fact that Bosley, normally the Angels’ primary point of contact for the never-seen Charlie, was going to be played by a woman, in this case, director Elizabeth Banks, instead of it being the only regular male role from the series.

Now, it appears that the plan is for the new Charlie’s Angels to have multiple Bosleys, with Banks playing one and Patrick Stewart playing another, and perhaps other actors playing the role as well, it’s not clear. The Hollywood Reporter doesn’t explain how the multiple Bosleys will work so it doesn’t appear to be known. The most likely scenario is that, if there are multiple offices for the agency filled with multiple Angels, each one probably has its own “Bosley.” Since it appears we’ll be seeing agents from multiple offices working together then there’s a good chance that we’ll see multiple Boselys as well.

The only question is, are they all actually called Bosley? This makes it sound like Bosley is a codename rather than the person’s actual name, which seems like something that would only breed confusion in your global company. Are they numbered? Or is Bosley a job title? Perhaps it’s just a nickname. Maybe every office calls their “guy” Bosley for reasons the movie will make clear (perhaps reasons related to the original series if the movie is supposed to take place in the same universe).

Whatever the rationale, Patrick Stewart is a fantastic addition to any movie’s cast and the character details are irrelevant. Although, this modern and updated take on Charlie’s Angels certainly makes the movie more interesting than it would otherwise be. With a release date almost exactly a year away, we still have a bit of time to wait to see what the end result of this unique version will be.

Saturday Night Live Season 44 Revealed Its First Host And Musical Act

Watching Colin Jost and Michael Che hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards felt very much like an extended segment on Saturday Night Live, especially given the recurring bits from sketch vets Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph. SNL Season 44 won’t actually get here until the end of the month, but the NBC staple has thankfully announced its first guest host and musical act: Star Wars and BlacKkKlansman star Adam Driver, and the headline-making rap icon Kanye West. This should make for quite the interesting installment in more than one way.

When Saturday Night Live returns to NBC for Season 44, the premiere will be fronted by one of Hollywood’s most promising younger stars, with Adam Driver currently serving as the head antagonist in the latest trilogy of Star Wars movies. (Not to mention starring turns in Terry Gilliam’s long-awaited The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Scott Z. Burns’ political drama The Torture Report and Jim Jarmusch’s comedy The Dead Don’t Die, to name but a few.) He was most recently seen in Spike Lee’s highly acclaimed BlacKkKlansman, which likely ties into his Saturday Night Live hosting duties. Assuming it won’t all be focused on Star Wars: Episode IX.

Check out the announcement below.

SNL always goes for a mega-star guest host to kick off the season, with recent years headed up by Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Miley Cyrus and Chris Pratt. So anyone without any blockbuster movies or bestselling albums need not apply for this particular hosting gig. That’s obviously not the case with either Adam Driver or his episode’s musical act, Kanye West.

This will mark Kanye West’s first return to Saturday Night Live following his somewhat controversial appearance in early 2016, when he reportedly went through backstage rants and temper tantrums that went on just before recording and during the actual taping itself. It’s been two and a half years, which is apparently enough time to let bad blood wash out, and this upcoming performance will be West’s sixth SNL appearance as a music guest. To keep the hype train going, West is seeming fueling speculation that he’ll soon be releasing Yeezus 2, a sequel to the bestselling 2013 album, which is feasible, since the rapper’s SNL appearances tend to come around his album drop dates.

Saturday Night Live has poked fun at Kanye West before, most memorably in that A Quiet Place parody, and hopefully we’ll get to see another sketch like this, possibly with Adam Driver also involved.

Saturday Night Live Season 44 is set to debut on NBC on Saturday, September 29, at 11:30 p.m. ET. To see what other shows will be popping up in primetime before and after then, head to our fall TV premiere schedule.

Casey Affleck Talks Family’s Role In Ben’s Sobriety

It was only a few weeks ago when Ben Affleck was reportedly confronted about his alcoholism by his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and once again sent to rehab to battle his vices and demons at her behest. Understandably, any updates have since been few-and-far-between, with the actor hopefully focused on his health and well-being. Although, it’s safe to say that Affleck has a number of people looking out for his ongoing recovery. That includes his younger brother, Casey Affleck, who was asked about Ben’s state of mind during a recent press junket for his film. Here’s what Casey Affleck said.

Casey Affleck’s comments about Ben Affleck were collected during the press day for The Old Man and the Gun, as it was reported by Entertainment Tonight. As the Academy Award-winning actor suggested, it is not merely for Ben’s own well-being that the actor/director is seeking treatment. Rather, Ben is also looking out for the concerns of his children and their mother during this difficult time. As Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are finally getting the details in place for their long-in-the-works divorce, Ben’s alcoholism has reportedly been a big factor in delaying the proceedings. The celebrity couple wants to make sure that the famous father is well-adjusted in his life before they figure out how to handle matters like custody.

Furthermore, Casey Affleck noted that the Afflecks come from a long line of addicts, and it’s important that Ben Affleck confronts his addictions.

Ben Affleck’s ongoing stint in rehab is his third time seeking treatment. To be more specific, Ben was previously in rehab in 2001 and December of last year. The actor/filmmaker entered rehab nearly one month ago in late August. He is expected to stay at least 30 days inside the treatment center, so it’s unclear at this moment if he plans to check himself out shortly thereafter, or if he’s going to stay inside the rehabilitation center for a few days or weeks longer. At the very least, however, Ben Affleck appears to be taking the treatment seriously. He was reportedly agreed to Jennifer Garner’s request to seek help, and the actor wants what’s best for both himself and his family, which includes his three children: Violet (12), Seraphina (9), and Samuel (6).

The Old Man and the Gun enters theaters on September 28th.

Brie Larson Has The Perfect Post-Captain Marvel Trailer Tweet

This morning we got our first look at Captain Marvel in action, and actress Brie Larson is pretty excited about it. The first trailer for Captain Marvel hit the web today, along with a brand new poster. While we’re certainly thrilled to get our first look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Brie Larson is even more excited to have us see it. More specifically, she’s excited to have her family see it, as she tweeted out a special message to her mom after the trailer went live.

“Look mom, I’m a superhero” is probably the thought that every single person who has played a hero on screen has thought when they first got a look at themselves in full costume. It has to be a pretty amazing feeling to see yourself transformed into a character like this. Based on the reaction that everybody else is having to the Captain Marvel trailer this morning, I can only assume that Brie Larson feels like she can actually fly right now. With Captain Marvel being the first female hero to get a solo outing, this trailer is getting a remarkable response.

Brie Larson included the brand new Captain Marvel movie poster in her tweet, which includes the tagline “Higher. Further. Faster.” It’s a phrase that’s been associated with Captain Marvel character in the comics and has made the jump with her to the big screen. It’s a great looking poster which references the character’s time as a pilot and shows her in full superhero garb. The only problem with it is that it reminds us we have to wait until March to actually see this movie.

Of course, there’s likely to be a lot of details about Captain Marvel left to be revealed between now and March. While this first trailer gives us a solid look at the movie and Carol Danvers story, there’s still a lot that we don’t see. We know that the movie will deal with a Skrull invasion of Earth but the trailer doesn’t really touch on that part of the story, instead deciding to focus on Carol Danvers attempts to piece together her past. It seems she doesn’t actually remember her early life very much. The trailer shows that while Captain Marvel will start the movie with her powers, it will still be an origin story of sorts, as we see a lot of flashback scenes that will likely be sprinkled throughout the story in order to tell us how this new hero came to be.

It’s going to be an excruciating wait as we get ready for the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. March can’t get here soon enough.

What Chevy Chase Really Doesn’t Like About Saturday Night Live These Days

It’s fair to say Chevy Chase was a key factor in Saturday Night Live‘s early success, and the series might not have still been on television today if it wasn’t for him and the original cast making it so popular. For that reason, Chase has occasionally been a little protective of the franchise, and he recently revealed there’s something he doesn’t particularly like about the show these days. On Norm Macdonald Has A Show, Chase went on a mini-rant about the current state of how people deliver SNL‘s classic “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night” line. In his words:

Chevy Chase chuckled along with the sometimes controversial host Norm Macdonald for the latter’s new Netflix series, and audience members in the room also joined in, but it was clear the comedy star has real issues with the way the current Saturday Night Live cast and guests are delivering the line that he helped make iconic. Chase preceded the above statement with a few impressions of others saying the line, with one of which being in another language, and in all instances, the emphasis was taken away from the word “live,” which he thinks is a big mistake.

The Saturday Night Live phrase is now the instantly memorable way of starting each episode, but back in Chevy Chase’s day, it was treated as a necessary part of the program. The whole point of the line was to emphasize to the audience that they were watching a live program, which is still a big deal in television today. Chase explained that he and SNL _creator Lorne Michaels felt the need to remind viewers it was live, which is why we never got to hear the simpler form, “From New York, it’s _Saturday Night Live!” Chase continued:

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Norm Macdonald seemed to agree with Chevy Chase about the current generation botching that particular line delivery, and added that he always preferred Chase’s announcements over the people who basically scream the SNL line. Chase didn’t have much to say about the current state of the show beyond that, but his statements appeared to indicate he’s watched at least the opening of the show in recent years. Chase is said to be banned from ever hosting SNL again, due to several heated incidents in the show’s past, but has made a few guest appearances in recent years. So maybe now they’ll invite him back on to show these youngsters how to do the thing.

What Bryce Dallas Howard Wants To See In Jurassic World 3

There are few film franchise quite as iconic as Jurassic Park. Everything from the CGI, the music, and the performances have made film history, with the current Jurassic World trilogy making tons of money at the box office. Director J. A. Bayona flipped the franchise on its head with this year’s Fallen Kingdom, taking the action outside of the island, and changing the world. After Isla Nublar’s destruction in the film’s first act, the surviving dinosaurs were eventually set free on the mainland. Furthermore, human cloning is now in the table, given the chilling origin of Maisie. There’s one more movie to complete the trilogy, and Bryce Dallas Howard recently shared what she’s hoping for in the threequel, saying:

3 Wild Breaking Bad Reveals From Better Call Saul’s Latest Episode

Spoilers below for the latest episode of Better Call Saul, so be sure to watch before reading on.

After spending the first chunk of Season 4 caught up in the immediate emotional aftermath of Chuck’s death, Better Call Saul‘s narrative lurched forward in time during the cleverly effective split-screen cold open. Unfortunately for Jimmy and Kim, the months did not bring the couple closer together, but rather drove them further away from each other. Thankfully for fans, though, their fractured relationship means the balance is turning for Jimmy McGill to give way to fully becoming Saul Goodman.

In the episode “Something Stupid,” Better Call Saul continued tipping its hat to its Breaking Bad future in interesting and potentially game-changing ways. We finally got to go underground to see the construction process for Gus’ eventual meth lab, where Mike got to holler at the restless crew in German, which was obviously amazing. But it was elsewhere in the episode that the more striking Breaking Bad connections occurred. So let’s go through the big three.

Saul Goodman’s First Catchphrase

Better Call Saul fans already got to see Saul Goodman in full swing in Season 4, thanks to that stress-inducing cold open some weeks back. But as this episode proved, the Saul persona wasn’t specifically crafted as a courtroom replacement for Jimmy, but rather as the name Jimmy used to sell burner phones to low-level street criminals. (In mostly legal ways, of course.) We got to hear him do some fancy Saul-esque mouthwork when talking his way out of trouble with that cop (even if Huell ruined it). But it was the business card the cop found, the same one that Jimmy was looking at in the opening, that introduced viewers to the catchphrase predecessor to this show’s title: “Need to call? Buy from Saul!”

It rolls off the tongue about as smoothly as a concrete roller skates, but it does add a secondary context to the use of “call” in our understanding of Jimmy/Saul. It wasn’t always just about people calling Saul when in legal trouble. It was about people finding him so they could buy a phone to make a call to someone else. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s a marked moment where he changes the phrasing to reflect other changes down the line.

Gus Hindered Hector’s Full Recovery

Around a year or so after Hector Salamanca first fell victim to Nacho’s assassination attempt, the crime boss was showing signs of communication via a very familiar finger-tapping maneuver. He also showed signs of his lecherous libido coming back, too, although we already know he’ll never return to his former glory in that capacity, nor any others. But what we didn’t know until tonight was that Hector might have actually gotten far closer to full recovery through his rehabilitation, had the cold and calculating Gus not intentionally put a stop to the medical treatment.

It does make perfect sense, though. Gus wants Hector suffering in whatever extreme ways are possible, even if he can’t kill his rival outright. And there are few better ways to metaphorically cripple an egotistical crime boss than to take away his voice and power of command. So while Hector’s situation may have seemed like a more natural health decline in the Breaking Bad days, fans now know that Gus played a far more personal role in keeping Don Hector in that bell-equipped wheelchair.
