He proposed at sunset on a beach with an emerald-cut ring the size of my head, estimated to be worth anywhere from $1 million to $5 million. Last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Rodriguez revealed even more details about how he prepared in advance to make sure everything went smoothly. “He knew for a long time that he wanted to propose to Jennifer,” a source previously told Page Six. “He wanted to get it right. The proposal has been a long time coming, Alex knew she was the one and has been painstakingly planning everything.”
This all tracks, as one would obviously want to be very prepared when proposing to the likes of J.Lo, right?
“I was nervous and I was excited,” Rodriguez told Fallon. “I can’t tell you too much, but I will share this with you—she’ll tell you more because she loves you. I planned it for about six months, and it was on a beach in the Bahamas.” Rodriguez wasn’t leaving anything to chance, though. “I rehearsed three days in a row because I wanted the sunset to be perfect,” he said, explaining that he brought his assistant along for help. “One time the sunset was at 6:27. The next day it was 6:29 and then the third day it was raining.” He landed on 6:29, and “it worked out well.”
Rodriguez almost ruined the surprise, however, by wearing his giant World Series ring—something he only brings out for special occasions. As for wedding planning he said, “We are still celebrating the engagement” before changing the subject to his daughter’s upcoming birthday party.
We see what you did there, Alex—but we’re still dying to know when this sure-to-be extravagant ceremony is going to take place and, more important, what Lopez is going to wear.
